Carmen Boon, M.A.

Carmen Boon currently serves as the Vice President for Public Affairs at Food Bank For New York City. With over two decades of experience, Carmen is distinguished for crafting strategic communications plans and orchestrating large-scale, issue-focused, multi-platform, multicultural, and multilingual public affairs and integrated media campaigns that have significantly heightened awareness for governmental and non-profit initiatives, influenced policy, shaped public opinion, and generated both public and private revenue.

Before her current role, Carmen spent fifteen years in various capacities within NYC government agencies. During her public service tenure, she tackled outreach challenges related to housing shortages, essential social services delivery, worker and immigrant rights advocacy, and critical public health enhancements. As part of the City’s senior press corps, she adeptly navigated crisis communications plans during economic recessions, natural disasters, and public health crises.

Carmen’s work has been recognized by the Women Changing the World Awards, Shorty Awards, MarCom Awards, PRWeek Purpose Awards, and AVA Digital Awards. She is a Board Member for the NY Greater Chapter of the Fulbright Association and an active member of CHIEF, the Public Relations Society of America, 100 Hispanic Women, the Association of Latino Professionals for America, and Feeding America’s Policy Engagement and Advocacy Committee.

Originally from Venezuela, Carmen came to the US as a Fulbright scholar. She holds a Master of Arts in Media Studies from The New School in Manhattan and a journalism degree from Universidad Católica Andrés Bello in Caracas. She currently balances her professional life between NYC and Verona, New Jersey, where she lives with her husband Dan, son Simon, and furry daughter Callista.
